What is repeatability in workholding, and how does it affect machining precision?
Updated
Repeatability is the ability of a clamping system or fixture to position a workpiece in the same location across repeated loading cycles. In precision CNC machining, high repeatability reduces the need for manual re-probing between operations, ensuring that new stock or transferred fixtures align directly to established datums. This consistency helps reduce part-to-part dimensional variation across production batches and allows transfers between milling, grinding, and EDM stations without losing reference coordinates.
The majority of MaxxTooling chucks are designed to achieve repeatability within a tolerance of 2 microns. See each product page for more repeatability information.
