MaxxMacro 54 Stainless Performance Rust Proof Pallet with 6mm Dowels comes fully assembled and ready to use. This product is 100% cross-compatible with the System 3R Macro OEM system. Machined from solid Stainless 440c block, performance pallet with 6mm finished dowels.

MaxxDesign Exclusive Features:

  • Machined from solid 440C stainless steel for maximum strength and corrosion resistance
  • Includes four finished 6mm dowel holes

Product Information:

MaxxMacro 54 Stainless Performance Rust-Proof Pallet with 6mm Dowels is not a cast pallet—it’s precision-machined from a solid block of 440C stainless steel, offering the highest performance, quality, and rigidity available. Its corrosion-resistant construction makes it ideal for even the most demanding machining environments, with no risk of flaking or peeling as seen in plated alternatives. This ensures long-lasting performance and reliability. As part of the extensive MaxxMacro product range, this pallet performs exceptionally well even as a standalone fixture. It allows for easy workpiece mounting with screws and provides an outstanding direct repeatability of 0.002 mm, fully compatible with the System 3R Macro interface.

Can I remove the Performance pallet from a MaxxMacro product?

The MaxxMacro (System 3R OEM 100% cross-compatible) Performance pallets supplied on MaxxMacro products are not designed to be removed during normal use. If your application requires pallet removal or replacement, contact MaxxTooling to confirm the appropriate procedure for the specific product.

What is the difference between MaxxMacro cast pallets and MaxxMacro Performance Pallets?

MaxxMacro (System 3R OEM 100% cross-compatible) cast pallets are ground on the top and bottom faces. MaxxMacro Performance Pallets are fully machined and ground from solid 440C stainless steel blanks rather than castings.

Cast pallets are priced nearly 60% below System 3R’s standard cast pallets. They provide comparable repeatability of 2 microns and height tolerances within 2 microns.

MaxxMacro Performance Pallets are priced at 75% of the cost of a System 3R base pallet and about one-third of the cost of a Nano pallet. They are corrosion resistant without plating.

The Performance tab design includes a lead-in and a smaller gap to reduce misalignment and breakage during automation.

For an example of sub-micron performance over 10 years, see the pallet-cycle study.

Does runout on a MaxxMacro pallet's outside diameter indicate a locating accuracy problem?

The outside perimeter of a MaxxMacro (System 3R OEM 100% cross-compatible) pallet is not a machine reference surface and has no functional tolerance. Inspect these features instead:

  • The dowel locations relative to the chuck zero.
  • Whether the pallet sits flat when indicating across the top surface.

How can I prevent the locating tabs on MaxxMacro 54 and MaxxMacro 70 pallets from breaking?

Locating tabs can break if a pallet is dropped, placed at an angle, or twisted into engagement with the chuck. The risk is greater when handling large fixtures.

To prevent damage:

  1. Fully retract the locking screw before changing the pallet on a manual chuck.
  2. Lower the pallet squarely and level onto the chuck, without dropping or striking it.
  3. Make sure the tabs engage the locators and the pallet is seated flat.
  4. Clamp only after the pallet is correctly seated. Do not twist it into position while actuating the chuck.

Does a MaxxMacro 70 pallet provide more stability than a MaxxMacro 54 pallet for large electrodes in 5-axis graphite machining?

Yes. A MaxxMacro (System 3R OEM 100% cross-compatible) 70 pallet provides a larger support and mounting area than a MaxxMacro 54 pallet for large electrodes.

If the electrode is mounted directly on the pallet, we recommend a machined MaxxMacro Performance Pallet.

How do the dowel holes in MaxxMacro cast and Performance Pallets differ?

Our MaxxMacro (System 3R OEM 100% cross-compatible) Casted Pallets have ⌀5mm unfinished dowel pin holes, while our MaxxMacro Performance Pallets are machined with four finished precision tolerance dowel holes measuring 6mm or 1/4".

What are the dowel-hole center tolerances of MaxxMacro 54 and 70 Performance Pallets?

The finished dowel holes in MaxxMacro (System 3R OEM 100% cross-compatible) Performance Pallets have a center tolerance of ±0.005 mm. They are machined while the pallet is mounted on a chuck so their positions align with the chuck’s XY reference.

The holes can be used to locate a custom fixture. While they are not explicitly designed for 3R locating features, their precision and repeatability make them a dependable solution for demanding applications.

How do I center a tool, holder, or custom fixture on a MaxxTooling Performance Pallet?

To center a tool, holder, or custom fixture on a Performance Pallet, the most accurate method is to use dowel pins on the bottom of your holder. Our MaxxMacro Performance Pallets come with finished holes for 6mm or 0.250" dowels, which help center and align your holder precisely on the pallet.

If dowels aren't an option—due to the size or design of your holder—you can align it manually:

  1. Start by locating the center of the chuck.
  2. Place your holder on the pallet and snug the mounting screws, but don’t fully tighten them yet.
  3. Mount the pallet onto the chuck.
  4. Indicate a suitable reference on the holder and tap the holder into position until it is centered.
  5. Once aligned, carefully remove the assembly and fully tighten the screws.

How do I choose a workholding pallet for my machining application?

Choosing a workholding pallet depends on workpiece size and weight, the production process, application requirements, and budget:

Workpiece size and weight: Select a pallet large enough for the workpiece. MaxxMacro (System 3R OEM 100% cross-compatible) Performance Pallets may be preferable for heavier applications.

Production process: For Wire EDM WEDM, a machined 440C MaxxMacro Performance Pallet is recommended. For milling, a cast pallet may be a more economical option.

Application requirements: Consider the precision and rigidity required. MaxxMacro Performance Pallets provide dimensional stability for demanding applications.

Budget: Cast stainless steel pallets cost less; MaxxMacro Performance Pallets are an option when their construction and finished features are needed.
