How do the Unclamp, Z-Clean, and Turbo Lock ports on a pneumatic chuck work?

Updated

MaxxTooling pneumatic chucks are normally closed: internal springs clamp the pallet when the Unclamp air supply is removed. Apply air to Unclamp to release the pallet. During removal or installation, Z-Clean supplies an air blast to clear the Z-datum seating surfaces.

Z-Clean is also generally used for clamping or seating verification. A seated pallet closes the circuit at the Z-reference air ports; the machine can monitor the pressure response to check that a pallet is present and correctly seated. This use depends on the machine’s sensing circuit and operating sequence.

On models with Turbo Lock, applying air to that separate circuit adds clamping force while the pallet is clamped. Release Turbo Lock before unclamping. Follow the pressure and port sequence specified for the exact chuck and machine configuration.
