Why should I avoid leaving a pneumatic chuck pressurized in the unclamped position?

Updated

Keeping a pneumatic chuck under constant air pressure while empty or during extended downtime leads to premature tool wear and contamination risks. Prolonged pressurization forces the internal springs to remain continuously compressed, accelerating spring fatigue and degrading long-term mechanical clamping force. Furthermore, holding the chuck in the open position leaves internal clamping bearings retracted and internal seals expanded, exposing internal mechanical assemblies to ambient shop contaminants, coolant mist, and abrasive particulate. Operators should always vent air pressure once a pallet is removed.
