Which operating factors and electrode properties determine EDM surface finish (SF)?
Updated
A fine surface finish requires a balanced combination of the proper electrode grade, effective dielectric flushing, and suitable power supply settings. Running the machine at high frequency and low discharge power, combined with orbital motion, produces the finest finish because these conditions generate significantly smaller and less defined craters in the workpiece. The electrode’s texture and condition can affect surface finish. High-strength graphites with Angstrofine (sub-micron) or Ultrafine particle structures are options for finishing electrodes.
