What is the Index Disabled feature, and how does it work?
Updated
The Index Disabled feature acts as a mechanical lockout that restricts coupling to a single 0° alignment, whereas standard tooling systems permit multi-angle (90°/180°) indexing. The error-proofing interface pairs an assembled index pin on the bottom of the pallet with a matching clearance cavity on the chuck body. When oriented at 0°, the cavity accepts the pin to allow normal clamping onto drawbars, spigots, or pull studs, but any incorrect 90° or 180° orientation causes the pin to collide with the solid chuck face, physically blocking engagement. This mechanical lockout prevents angular setup errors in automated robotic cells and high-mix machining environments. For proper clearance during pallet exchange, the index pin must always sit on the side opposite the loading direction, ensuring an unobstructed approach path when a manual operator or robotic arm transfers the pallet into the chuck.
